Bizarre Love Polygon: questions & answers
Pin your love life on a cute pink map and watch your polygon grow.
💗 Open the appWhat is a love polygon?
Drop a heart on the map wherever you fell for someone: a first date, a kiss, a whole relationship. Connect the outermost hearts and you get your love polygon: the shape of your love life on the map. Add someone in a new city and watch it grow.
How is the area worked out?
The polygon is the smallest convex shape around all your hearts (its convex hull). Its area is measured on the curved surface of the Earth, in km², and compared with things you know, from a football pitch to a whole country.
Is my data private?
Yes. There is no account and no server holding your data. Everything you add (nicknames, places, dates, your photo) is stored encrypted in your browser on this device and never sent to us. Map tiles come from OpenFreeMap and place search uses Photon; they only receive the map area you look at and the text you search for. The details are in the privacy policy.
Does it use AI? What does it do with my Google account?
No AI, anywhere. The app doesn’t generate, edit or analyse pictures, and it isn’t a place for intimate or sexual images: the only picture in it is your own optional profile photo, cropped on your device into the round sticker on your card. Google is used only if you choose it: Drive sync keeps an encrypted backup of your map in a hidden app folder (the drive.appdata permission), and the app can’t see your other files, your emails, your contacts or anything else in your account. The privacy policy has the details.
What does my share card show?
Your polygon on the map, your stats and a sticker with your photo or Polly. It never shows notes, and shows no names unless you tick "Show names above the hearts" (ask the people first). The map zooms in to fit your polygon, so a small one can show streets: tick "Blur exact places" to move each heart by up to about 3.5 km. The card is made on your phone; nothing is uploaded unless you share it.
Can I make a video of my polygon?
Yes: Share → Video. A month counter starts at your oldest relationship and runs to today while the hearts pop in and the polygon grows. Pick the speed (two months a second by default); the app warns you if the video gets longer than Instagram Stories or WhatsApp Status allow. The video is made on your phone (MP4 where the browser can, otherwise WebM) and nothing is uploaded.
Why do I have to enter dates?
Dates turn hearts into stories: they give you durations like your average time together and your longest love, and they drive the timelapse. The month and year are enough; the day is optional. If it is still going, tick "Still going".
Is it free?
Yes. Bizarre Love Polygon is free to use. It is supported by a few clearly labelled ads (never on the map) and by optional donations.
Can I use it on several devices?
Yes: Settings → Google Drive sync keeps an encrypted copy in your own Google Drive, in a hidden folder only the app can see. The first device creates a secret sync key; there is nothing to choose or remember. To add a device, tap "Add another device" on one that is already connected and scan the QR code with the new one’s camera, then connect the same Google account there. On a computer, type the code shown under the QR. Changes then sync on their own. Drive sync works at bizarre.lovepolygon.com.
What is the recovery code?
When you first turn on Drive sync, the app shows your recovery code once. It is the key to your Drive copy. You only need it if you lose every device; keep it in a note or a password manager. Without it (and without any linked device), nobody can open the Drive copy, not even us.
How do I keep my data safe or move it to a new phone?
Drive sync (above) is the easiest way. Without it, open Settings and save an encrypted backup file with a passphrase; on the new device, use "Restore from file" with the same passphrase. Save a backup now and then, especially on iPhone, where browsers can clear website data.
Can I lock the app?
Yes: Settings → App lock. Set a PIN of 4 to 8 digits and your data is encrypted with it, so without the PIN nobody can open it, not even us. The PIN also protects the Drive sync key on this device, so the PIN is the only thing you need to remember. The app locks again after a minute in the background, or whenever you tap "Lock now". A forgotten PIN can’t be recovered: only Drive sync or a backup brings your data back.
Can it look less obvious on my phone?
Yes: Settings → Discreet mode gives the app a neutral name and icon ("Places"). Turn it on before adding the app to your home screen. For a completely separate map, make a private address in Settings: each address keeps its own map on that device.
Is it OK to add real people?
Use nicknames, not real names. Everyone deserves privacy, including the people on your map. The share card shows no names unless you choose to (only with their consent), and what you post is up to you, so keep it kind. The terms of use explain what is not OK.
Which languages are there?
English, Chinese, Spanish, French, Portuguese, Japanese and Korean. The app picks your browser language; change it any time in Settings.
How do I delete everything?
Settings → Delete everything. It removes your people, places, photo and the encryption keys from this device. It cannot be undone. If Drive sync was on, the Drive copy stays: delete it in Google Drive → Settings → Manage apps → Bizarre Love Polygon → Options → "Delete hidden app data".
I found a bug. How do I report it?
Settings → "Found a bug?" opens an email to info@lovepolygon.com with technical details (app version, browser, screen) and nothing about your people or places. Or write to that address directly.
